My oldest daughter has two of those dolls and my youngest has five or six. They're not porcelin, they're soft plastic with VERY realistic hair, about 2 feet tall.... but here's the marketing catch....

Almost every outfit available for the dolls is available in girls sizes too. So a little girl can dress up and have their doll look like their baby sister or something. The only Brick and mortar store is in downtown Chicago and went there once to buy Christmas gifts for my girls.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">sure can. I actually sell those little guys, and they don't take long to make. all I need to know is what color you want.

the pics of the blue one are terribly fuzzy..I do have a much clearer picture of one I recently made for someone else though, in purple. it's slightly different from the blue one too.

american girls are collectable dolls..big, made of porcelain, I do believe, very expensive, with tons of accessories.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Actually they are vinyl, 18" tall, super durable wigs, and $84 each. There are 8 historical dolls: Kaya (Native American 1764), Felicity (colonial 1774), Josefina (New Mexico, 1824), Kirsten (Swedish Immigrant in Minnesota, 1854), Addy (Black American slave turned freed-girl 1864), Samantha (Edwardian, 1904), Kit (Great Depression 1934) and finally Molly (American Homefront 1944) All of the dolls have a series of books based on their period in history. Outfits and accessories are historically accurate and often are miniature replica's of actual items from that era.

There are also "modern" dolls which you can creat your own character with.

We come up with all kinds of ideas for our dolls. One member turned a doll into Eowyn from LOTR. I considered having my girls dress up as Jubilee, Jean Gray, Shadowcat, and Rogue last year but never got around to making costumes.

Most of us are pretty mild. We love our dolls, we have connected to their stories and characters. We consider AG not to be the average collector doll as they are meant to be played with. And...not all members are women or girls, we have some nice gentlemen that even collect the dolls.

Welcome to the board Susan....Thanks for sharing the backgrounds for those AG dolls...I can say that I am sorta walking the thin line between action figures and dolls, though they aren't the AG ones....

The ones I got are 12" ones, where I would classify the girls in my collection as 'dolls' and the guys as '12" action figures'...
